Reel Vision in Rhode Island

Reel Vision was recently invited to The Alternate Educational Programming (AEP), in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. The AEP Transition Program offers a four week course of study and activities designed to provide eighth graders who had difficulty in that grade, who will be entering high school, with enhanced self-respect, self esteem, and respect for others and positive choices in their lives. Advancement to the 9th grade is predicated upon successful completion of the program.

With a brief introduction to production, twenty high school students from Woonsocket, Rhode Island jumped into the Reel Vision curriculum. They were asked to create public service announcements about issues that they thought were relevant to their community. Through examining professional work, they learned to dissect and critically analyze media. Through this project, students learned to write scripts, research statistics, create story-boards, compose shots, and edit their footage. They self-assigned roles, developing leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
